Washington Commanders Defeat Philadelphia Eagles, Eagles Drop to Third Seed in NFL Playoffs

By William Armstead –

PHILADELPHIA — The Washington Commanders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 24-17. With the loss, the Eagles will be hosting the San Francisco 49ers at home for their first game of the postseason.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, decided to sit all of the starters for today’s game. These players included quarterback Jalen Hurts, tight end Dallas Goedert, running back Saquon Barkley, and wide reciever AJ Brown. The only starter who played was wideout DeVonte Smith and it was very brief, just enough play time to get him over 1,000 receiving yards for the season.

Backup quarterback Tanner McKee threw for one touchdown and one interception. That touchdown was to tight end Grant Calcaterra. Tank Bigsby led the Eagles on the ground with 75 yards and a touchdown.

The Commanders came back from down 17-10 to win 24-17 after a touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Johnson to John Bates and then a touchdown run by Chris Rodriguez Jr. Johnson finished the game with both a passing and rushing touchdown. Rodriguez Jr. and Jacoby Croskey-Merritt split the workload in the backfield with Rodriguez having more success.

The Commanders will have a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft coming up. As for the Eagles, they will host the 49ers at home in what will be a hard fought first playoff game.
