WORCESTER — WPI football finished its 2025 season Saturday afternoon with a 45-9 defeat to Salve Regina in NEWMAC football action at Alumni Stadium. The Engineers end the season with a 2-8 overall record, going 1-6 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Seahawks finish 6-4 and 3-4.
WPI honored its 17 seniors leading up to the game which included Jack Thompson (Scituate, RI), Dan Shanley (Waltham, MA), Ty Csencsits (Hellertown, PA), Ryan Hannigan (Needham, MA), Aedan McDermott (Guilford, CT), Joey LeClerc (Raynham, MA), Aiden Cavotta (Chittenango, NY), Josh Casto (Pittsburgh, PA), Zachary Zambardi (Green Township NJ), Jack Haber (Chicopee, MA), Dylan Wagner (Windsor, CA), Tom McGraw (Portsmouth, RI), Colin Chandonnet (Bedford, NH), Nikolas Hemmings (West Haven, CT), Nate Ambrad (Wakefield, RI), Brady Sheehan (Avon, MA) and Seth Beyea (Arundel, ME).
WPI’s passing was led by Jack Schuck (Bangor, ME) with 53, with McDermott and Zambardi combining for 41 more. McDermott tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to his fellow senior Csencsits on the final play of the game. Castro caught four passes for 30 yards, and running back Tom McGraw broke 100 yards for the first time, going for 101 yards on 23 carries to lead the ground game.
Defensively, for WPI, Cavotta, Hannigan, Jake Robertson (Grafton, MA), and Carter Learned (Reading, MA) each recorded six tackles. Carson Palma (Londonderry, NH) added five of his own. Santino Madello (Leonardtown, MD) was active in the backfield, hurrying the quarterback.
Salve Regina drew first blood on a 48-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Crampton (East Greenwich, RI) to Jacoby Smith (New Haven, CT) halfway through the first quarter. Just after, the Seahawks took advantage of a WPI fumble, as Marco Soto (Milford, MA) registered a scoop n’ score to make it 14-0.
The visitors extended their lead in the second quarter when Justan Luzzi (Pittsburgh, PA), who had 135 yards on the day, capped off a 13-play, 70-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run.
WPI answered before the break, as Nathan Napier (Natick, MA) drilled a 27-yard field goal to make it 21-3 at halftime.
Luzzi burst into the open field for a 71-yard touchdown on the first play of the third quarter, and Thomas Fallon (Eastchester, NY) followed that up with a nine-yard scoring pass to Thomas Gangi (Cumberland, RI), making the score 35-3.
In the fourth, Nathan DiRado (Syracuse, NY) added a 28-yard field goal, and Fallon and Smith linked up one again for a 43-yard touchdown to make it 45-3. McDermott’s strike to Csencsits in the closing seconds made it 45-9.
Salve Regina totaled 407 yards of offense, an extremely balanced attack with everyone getting involved. Fallon’s 17-of-22 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns displayed the pass game. Luzzi rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns, while Smith caught seven passes for 131 yards and two scores. Max Collins (Milford, CT) and Crampton each added seven receptions.
On defense, James Minotti (Haverhill, MA) racked up eight tackles, and Marc Promutico (Staten Island, NY) recorded a forced fumble. Marcues Jean (Fall River, MA) added an interception, and Sam Andrea (Wethersfield, CT) contributed a sack as the Seahawks held WPI to 186 total yards.
