KINGSTON, R.I. – Third baseman for the Rhode Island Baseball team, Anthony DePino, was selected in the seventh round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. DePino was selected with the 196th pick on Monday afternoon.
In his senior season, DePino placed himself at the top of the nation’s best hitters. ABCA/Rawlings, D1Baseball.com, and Perfect Game all awarded DePino with All-American honors.
DePino ranked among the nation’s top 20 in a plethora of statistical categories, including runs scored (2nd), walks (10th), total bases (18th), and on-base percentage (20th). The Connecticut native graduates as Rhode Island’s all-time leader in runs (201), home runs (65), RBIs (181), total bases (475), extra-base hits (118), and walks (153), while appearing throughout the program’s career and single-season top-10 lists.
DePino started all 58 games at third base this season and helped lead the Rams to a program history best 38 total wins. The historical season was enough to capture both the Atlantic 10 regular season and tournament championships. The tournament title gifted URI an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, where they faced off against the 2025 national champion LSU Tigers in the Baton Rouge Regional.
DePino posted an impressive .354 in his senior year, paired with a .730 slugging percentage. He set the single-season school record with 20 home runs and 61 RBIs. DePino recorded 80 hits, with over half of those going for extra bases. He also posted a .924 fielding percentage with 105 assists.
DePino is the first Rhode Island player drafted since Mark Coley was selected by the Miami Marlins in 2023 (17th round, 503rd overall). In program history, 20 players have been drafted by MLB organizations, with DePino becoming the highest pick since Eric Smith went in the second round (60th overall) to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009.
