BOSTON, MA- The Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of one run to zero in their July 12th contest at Fenway Park. The Red Sox have now won nine straight games and are closing in on second place in the AL East. The Rays have lost three straight and are now in danger of being swept by the Red Sox in their four-game series.
The Red Sox scored the lone run of the entire game in the 4th inning when catcher Carlos Narvaez hit a single towards left field, allowing outfielder Roman Anthony to cross home plate. Pitcher Garrett Crochet recorded nine strikeouts on the day, did not allow a run, and pitched the entire game. Crochet improved his record to 10-4 on the mound with a solid 2.23 ERA.
The Rays had no answer for Crochet. Only three players recorded a hit for the Rays, and those players were Yandy Diaz, Curtis Mead, and Taylor Walls, who all hit singles. Starting pitcher Shane Baz pitched six innings and struck out three batters. Reliever Edwin Uceta pitched better, however, striking out four batters in only one inning pitched.
The Rays will look to avoid getting swept while the Red Sox look to extend their win streak to ten straight games as they will face off again on July 13th at Fenway Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
