Minneapolis, MN- The Minnesota Lynx defeated the Washington Mystics by a score of 92 to 75 in their July 3rd meeting. The Lynx improve to 15-2 on the season and hold the best record in the WNBA. The Mystics fall to 8-10.
The Lynx had a huge night from forward Napheesa Collier, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds and four assists. Four out of five Lynx starters finished the night in double figures. Alanna Smith, Kayla McBride, and Courtney Williams all scored 10 points each. The Lynx also received help off the bench from Jessica Shepard’s eight points.
As for the Mystics, all of the starters struggled as forward Shakira Austin was the only starter to score double-digit points with 10. Much of the Mystics’ production was off the bench. Forward Aaliyah Edwards had a great night with 15 points off the bench, shooting 85% from the field. Guard Lucy Olsen also had a monster game off the bench with 19 points, shooting 70% from the field. As a team, the Mystics shot an abysmal 3-20 from three-point range.
The Mystics will look to break out of their two-game losing skid as they host the Chicago Sky on July 8th at 11:30 a.m. The Lynx will stay at home as they take on the WNBA’s newest team, the Golden State Valkyries, on July 5th at 8:00 p.m.
