The Miami Marlins hosted the Minnesota Twins on Thursday afternoon at LoanDepot Park in Miami, FL. The Marlins historic eight-game winning streak was snapped with a 2-1 loss on Wednesday.
The Twins placed RHP Bailey Ober on the 15-day injured list retroactive to June 29, 2025 with a left hip impingement and recalled Kody Funderbunk from Triple-A St. Paul, and former Marlins infielder Jonah Bride was sent outright to St. Paul after being designated for assignment on July 1st.
Eury Perez had his first quality start since 2023 for the Marlins, when he pitched six innings, only allowed one hit, no earned runs, one walk, and seven strikeouts. Perez pitched his first career one-hitter.
David Festa pitched six innings for the Twins, as he pitched six innings, allowing five hits, four earned runs, one walk, and seven strikeouts, which made it his second quality start of the season.
Xavier Edwards and Jesus Sanchez hit back-to-back singles to start the game for the Marlins. Otto Lopez hit into a fielder’s choice as Sanchez was out at second base, and Edwards scored. Agustin Ramirez hit a two-run homer, as the Marlins jumped into a 3-0 lead.
Sanchez added a RBI single in the third inning, and extended the Marlins lead to 4-0.
The Twins would not score until a solo homer from Matt Wallner in the seventh, and it would be their only run of the game. Wallner was previously hitless in his last four games. Trevor Larnach hit a double and single after going 1-for-18 in his previous five games.
Ronny Henriquez pitched his fifth career save against his former team as the Marlins won 4-1 against the Twins.
Edwards hit two times, as he extended his on-base streak to 11 games, and a six-game hitting streak. Lopez hit a single in the eighth inning as he’s reached safely in 14 out of the last 15 games.
Kyle Stowers went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts, as he snapped his 11-game on-base streak and a nine-game hitting streak. Ramirez had his 29th extra base hit with his home run, as he could be the second quickest Marlin to have 30 extra base hits if only done within his next two games, behind only Giancarlo Stanton having his 30th XBH in his 54th game. Logan Morrison is the next closest player with getting his 30th XBH in his 63rd career game in 2011.
The Marlins will play on Independence Day against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday with Sandy Alcantara going up against Quinn Priester at 7:10 pm first pitch. The Twins will go back to Minnesota as Chris Paddack going up against Zack Littell at 4:10 pm first pitch on Friday.
