PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Phillies blew out the New York Mets by a score of seven runs to one in their game on June 22nd, 2025. The Phillies improve to 47-31 while the Mets have now lost eight of their last nine ballgames.
For the Phillies, both Kyle Schwarber and Edmundo Sosa smashed home runs. Schwarber also contributed a single and an RBI while Sosa added another single, a double, and three RBIs. Both home runs were hit in the fourth inning, putting the game out of reach early. Shortstop Trea Turner and right fielder Nick Castellanos both went 2-4 on the day, with Castellanos hitting two doubles and Turner notching two singles. As for pitching, Jesus Luzardo struck out seven batters, improving his record on the mound to 7-3 with a 4.08 ERA.
As for the Mets, only two players recorded hits on the day, including shortstop Francisco Lindor and left fielder Brandon Nimmo. Lindor went 2-4 with a single, a homer, and an RBI. Nimmo went 2-3 with two singles. David Peterson struggled on the mound for the Mets and was pulled after allowing five runs in the fourth inning. Before the meltdown, Peterson did record four strikeouts.
The Phillies will look to keep first place in the NL when they face off against the Houston Astros in Houston, starting a new three-game series. The Mets hope to get back to winning ways and will host the Atlanta Braves in New York, which will be a four-game series between the two teams.
