Turner and Kepler Homer in Phillies Win against Marlins in Miami; 5-2

The Miami Marlins hosted the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night at LoanDepot Park in Miami, FL to start a four-game series. The Phillies are coming off a sweep of the Blue Jays in the weekend series, and were on a four-game winning streak, and the Marlins swept the Washington Nationals in the weekend series. 

Mick Abel pitched five innings for the Phillies, allowing three hits, one earned run, one walk, and three strikeouts. 

Sandy Alcantara pitched five innings for the Marlins, allowing five hits, two earned runs, one walk, and five strikeouts. Alcantara has pitched five innings in the last three games. 

Trea Turner hit his second leadoff home run of the season, and as a Philie, with his 18th career overall. Alec Bohm hit a double and was stranded on base, as the Phillies ended the first inning with a 1-0 lead. 

Connor Norby tied the game with an RBI single when he brought home Kyle Stowers in the second inning. Stowers hit a triple in the inning. 

Then in the fourth, the Phillies retook the lead with a solo homer by Max Kepler. Then, Turner had his second RBI of the game with a RBI single in the seventh. 

Xavier Edwards hit his second straight single in the eighth inning, and Javier Sanoja hit a pinch-hit single. Otto Lopez hit into a fielder’s choice as Sanoja was out at second. Agustin Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one run with a 3-2 score. 

Rafael Marchan hit a double in the ninth inning, then Brandon Marsh walked and Marchan went to third on a passed ball. Kyle Schwarber was hit by pitch and loaded the bases. Bohm with the bases loaded with a two-run single as the Phillies went into a 5-2 lead. 

Orion Kekering came on the mound and clinched his first save, with a strikeout on Liam Hicks, and groundouts to Eric Wagaman and Norby, as the Phillies extended their winning streak to five games with a 5-2 victory over the Marlins. 

Marsh had a triple in the seventh inning, as he extended his hitting streak to seven games. He’s had three extra-base hits in the last five games, and his first triple in the season. Trea Turner had the leadoff homer and two singles, and had multiple hits in back-to-back games. Turner extended his on-base streak to eight games. Kepler’s homer extended his hitting streak to six games. Bohm had a double and a single, as he’s had back-to-back games with multiple hits with an extra-base hit. 

Edwards got two hits as he’s had two multi-hit games in the last three, and he’s reached safely in six out of the last seven. Stowers hit his third triple of the season, and played all three outfield positions. He’s the second player ever in franchise history to play all three outfield positions in the same game, as Danny Bautista was the first to do it on July 11, 1999 against the Tampa Bay Devils Rays. 

Dane Myers exited the game when he was hit in the left elbow on a pitch from Abel in his plate appearance in the third inning, and was replaced by Herbiberto Hernandez, who took over left field, while Stowers moved to center. Ramirez has been hitless in five out of the last three games. 

The teams will play again on Tuesday at 6:10 pm first pitch with Jesus Luzardo going up against Cal Quantrill.
