New York Liberty Score Triple Digits Versus The Sun For Second-Largest Margin of Victory In WNBA History

By Cameron Williams-

NEW YORK – The start of a new month (June) and we are already seeing havoc being created from the champions last night. They walloped the Connecticut Sun, putting up one-hundred points with a score of 100-52. The Sun also just promoted Roberta Hodges to associate head coach, she was a former assistant on Liberty’s staff

The 7-0 Liberty have been absolutely cruising to victory, but this one being their most well-rounded game we have seen. The Liberty tied their very own record of scoring nineteen three-pointers in a single game (WNBA Record).

The Connecticut Sun has been off to a very slow start, now posting a 1-6 record. Their offense hasn’t been able to gel as well as they thought they would be able to… not to mention their defense has so many holes in it. There needs to be more accountability with the coaching side of their schemes because clearly they haven’t been working. This loss was their largest margin of defeat for the Sun in franchise history. The previous record was forty-three points, they surpassed that by five more points last night (June 1).

The Liberty tops the Eastern Conference, holding the lead by 2 games. They have won every game thus far this season and the champs show no signs of slowing down. They have had incredible offensive success led by Natasha Cloud and Sabrina Ionescu who have had incredible seasons. In all honesty though, the whole starting five and even the sixth and seventh women have been great additions and have created immense chaos when they get time, and that leads to scoring. They move the ball around well, they create open holes to get into the lane, and they pass the ball more than most teams in the league.

A team like the Sun needs to take the page out of their book here. They need to create more chaos on the offensive side of the ball so they can create new lanes to drive down near the basket. They need to be able to run through a tough defense like the Liberty’s if they want to make a push for the playoffs this year.

The Liberty will face off against the Washington Mystics (June 5th 7:30 PM EST @ The CareFirst Arena) and will look to continue on their road of pure dominance and move to 8-0 on the season.

The Sun will face off against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever (June 6th 7:00 PM EST @ The Mohegan Sun Arena) and will look to bounce back after a brutal loss to the Liberty. They will look to capture their second win of the year and try to revive their season after early struggles.
