Sykes Scores 28, Mystics Dominate Sun

WASHINGTON D.C.- The Washington Mystics defeated the Connecticut Sun by a score of 104 to 67 in their June 8th meeting. The Mystics are back in the win column after three straight losses. The Sun fall to 2-7 on the season.

The Mystics were led by guard Brittany Sykes, who dropped 28 points and also found her teammates with six assists. The Mystics had six different players in double figures. Forward Kiki Iriafen shot well after going six for eight with 12 points. The Mystics’ bench contributions also had a huge impact, as Shakira Austin scored 14 and Aaliyah Edwards scored 13. Austin and Edwards were the second and third highest scorers for the Mystics after Sykes.

As for the Sun, guard Marina Mabrey flirted with a triple-double after she recorded 15 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. The leading scorer for the Sun was center Tina Charles, who was also one rebound shy of a double-double, recording 17 points and nine rebounds. Guard Jacy Shelton matched her teammate Marina Mabrey with 15 points of her own. 

The Sun will go home to host the Chicago Sky on Sunday, June 15th, featuring the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference. The Mystics will stay at home to square off against the Atlanta Dream, as they continue to challenge the Indiana Fever for the third spot in the East.
