The Red Sox called up number one prospect, Roman Anthony, on June 9th to join their major league roster. He was the youngest debutant since Rafael Devers in 2017. Before getting called up this year, he was in Triple-A in Worcester. He batted .288 with 10 homers, including a near 500 foot bomb (497 feet) vs Rochester.
He was drafted by the Red Sox in 2022, 2nd-round compensatory pick, and was ranked the #1 prospect in all of baseball, by Baseball America.
He is the perfect player for the Red Sox as he is not only a great contact hitter, but he has some serious power. As mentioned before, while in triple-A he launched a 497 foot bomb versus Rochester. The kid has some speed to him as well, which will help on the bases and on defense.
He had a rough day defensively on his debut, committing an error, but nonetheless the kid is ready to play at this level. As the nerves settle in, he will become a stand out player. Here’s what he had to say on his debut-
“It was awesome. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a win. But it was a good experience.”
“Just can’t happen. I’ve dealt with that skip a million times in my career. It’s tough when you lose a game like that and you feel like that’s the reason why you lost.”
