On Saturday, the Boston Red Sox announced the promotion of right-handed pitcher Robert Stock to the active Major League roster, elevating him from Triple-A Worcester. Stock, who will don the number 78, brings with him a solid track record on the mound. In his previous appearance for the Red Sox this season, he pitched 2.0 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 7, allowing just one run on three hits and issuing one walk. During his time with Worcester, Stock has demonstrated his capability, posting an impressive 3.09 ERA (19 earned runs over 55.1 innings) while racking up 63 strikeouts in 12 games—of which nine were starts.
Originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has a diverse professional background, having recorded a career 4.70 ERA (39 earned runs in 74.2 innings) across 56 Major League games, including three starts, with teams such as the San Diego Padres (2018-2019), the Red Sox (2020, 2025), the Chicago Cubs (2021), and the New York Mets (2021).
In conjunction with Stock’s addition to the roster, the Red Sox optioned fellow right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell to Worcester. In his most recent outing, Criswell pitched 3.0 innings and limited the opposition to just one run while striking out two batters. This season, he has made five appearances for Boston, yielding a total of nine runs (six of which were earned) in 9.0 innings. In contrast, his performance with Worcester has been stellar, highlighted by a 1.52 ERA (5 earned runs over 29.2 innings) coupled with a remarkable 0.94 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in seven games—six of which were starts. Criswell was originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 13th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft. The Georgia native has a career 4.68 ERA (76 earned runs in 146.0 innings) over 43 Major League games, including 20 starts, with the Angels (2021), Tampa Bay Rays (2022-2023), and the Red Sox (2024-2025).
Additionally, the Red Sox placed right-handed pitcher Josh Winckowski on the 60-Day Injured List due to a right elbow flexor strain. Winckowski has seen action in six games for Boston this season, maintaining a 3.86 ERA (5 earned runs in 11.2 innings). His time with Worcester has been even more impressive, where he has posted a 2.21 ERA (5 earned runs over 20.1 innings) and struck out 18 batters over five games—three of which were starts. Originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Ohio native has demonstrated a strong presence on the mound with a career ERA of 4.20 (113 earned runs in 242.1 innings) across 121 games, including 21 starts, during his tenure with the Red Sox (2022-2025).
