Norfolk Tides Drop Game Four in Louisville, Eye Series Win in Sunday Twin Bill

By Tiffany Williams –

On Saturday, the Norfolk Tides continued their six-game road trip at Louisville Slugger Field in Louisville, KY, facing off against the Louisville Bats. Unfortunately for the Tides, they came up short, suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat.

Norfolk’s only run of the game was in the top of the first inning, when talented infielder Jordan Westburg showcased his power at the plate. He connected with an 84.7 mph sweeper delivered by Bats’ pitcher Chase Petty, sending the ball soaring for his second home run of the season, and giving the Tides an early 1-0 lead.

However, the momentum shifted in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Bats mounted a comeback. Blake Dunn initiated the rally with a sharp ground ball single that found its way into left field, allowing Bryson Brigman to cross the plate and tie the game at 1-1. The Bats continued to build on their success when Jeimer Candelario followed up with a line drive single to right field. This hit allowed Ivan Johnson to score, giving Louisville a 2-1 advantage.

Due to inclement weather, the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader was postponed. It will now take place on Sunday, transforming the day into a Doubleheader Sunday at Louisville Slugger Field. The originally scheduled game for Sunday is set to start at 12:05 PM, followed by the rescheduled game two, which was initially planned for Friday but also canceled due to rain. Both encounters on Sunday are slated to be seven-inning games.

The Tides had a strong start to the series, securing victories in the first three games against the Bats. They claimed an 8-5 win on Tuesday, followed by an impressive 14-10 triumph on Wednesday, and edged out Louisville with a close 6-5 win on Thursday. With just one more victory on Sunday, the Tides can clinch the series win.
