The New York Liberty took care of business over the Golden State Valkyries. The ladies move onto 4-0 on the season and have been nothing short of dominant… this being their most dominant win of the season thus far, winning ninety-five to sixty-seven..
The Liberty scored twenty-seven in the first quarter, while holding Golden State to only ten points. This is what has been an early key to the Liberty’s success. They have been able to efficiently score, while running the clock, and also playing solid defense. Holding their opponents to ten points in a quarter, especially the first quarter, gives all the momentum to the Liberty. When you have the momentum after the first quarter and make a team have to chase seventeen points, it will be hard to manage.
The Valkyries ended up keeping the margin closer in the second quarter and third, but by the fourth quarter the Liberty went full throttle scoring twenty-eight in the fourth to solidify a near thirty point margin victory to move to 4-0.
The 2024 WNBA Champs have been rolling so far this season, everything and more that we have expected. Natasha Cloud also earned the WNBA player of the week – averaging 18.7 PPG, 7.7 APG, 5.7 RBG, and 2.7 SPG. Cloud, an early candidate for the MVP, definitely will need to keep an eye out as the reigning champs look to continue to build off of their success.
The Liberty will face off against the Valkyries again tomorrow (May 29 7:00 PM) at the Barclays Center. The Liberty will look to continue to run their high-powered offense and shut down the Valkyries offense early, and sweep their momentum from right under to take full advantage and control of the game.
Golden State will need to change how they run their offense, and look for more open passes to create lanes to drive to the basket and get around the Liberty’s defenders that shut them down countless times this past game.
The Liberty will look to move to 5-0 on the year with a win over Golden State tomorrow (May 29 7:00 PM).
