The Florida Panthers hosted the Carolina Hurricanes in Game Four of the Eastern Conference finals on Memorial Day at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida. The Panthers were up 3-0 and were attempting to sweep the Canes en route to their third consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearance.
The Canes didn’t get swept as the play of Frederik Anderson kept the Panthers scorers at bay. Anderson had a series high of 20 saves on 20 shots on net .
Logan Stankoven scored the first goal of the game for the Canes in the second quarter, in his fifth goal of the postseason.
Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal sealed the victory with empty-net goals, as the Canes avoid elimination with a 3-0 victory.
The Canes had dropped 15 straight Eastern Conference finals games, as they were swept in 2009 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, 2019 against the Boston Bruins, and 2023 against the Panthers. They had last won a game in 2006, when they won the series in seven en route to their last Stanley Cup championship against the Edmonton Oilers, who if the Canes are able to pull a reverse sweep, could face the Oilers or the Dallas Stars.
The Canes limited the Panthers to 12 shots in two periods. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 25 shots for the Panthers on 26 shots on goal.
Game Five will take place in Raleigh, NC, and then if Game Six is necessary, it will come back to Sunrise, Florida, before going back to Raleigh for Game 7 if the Canes win the next two games.
