The WNBA recently announced that they are unveiling a new platform that will be implemented all around the league, both digital and in person.
The “No Space For Hate” platform is a platform that will look to bring fans and teams alike with unity and positivity.
The key purposes of the new platform will showcase enhanced technological features that
detect hateful comments online and in social media posts; increased security measures for
teams, arenas, and league security; implementing and making mental health resources more available and widespread; and to create unity and destroy hate.
To support the mission, the league will look to run with new unified messaging and slogans across all teams through in-arena PSA announcements, court floor graphics, pre-game shirts, and widespread social media content.
WNBA and their official teams will use new AI technology (Artificial Intelligence) to help monitor the social media pages, in the fight against hateful commentary. “We want our arenas, and our social platforms filled with energy and fandom – not hate and vitriol.” said WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert in a press release announcing the initiative.
The WNBA is also reaffirming its commitment to not only league-wide positivity, but also highlighting the newly improved and available mental health resources for players, their families, and team and league staff members. With this, the league will also be introducing a newly enhanced and more accessible fan code of conduct, which is made available on WNBA.com, WNBA App, and WNBA social platforms.
This updated code reflects the league’s broader emphasis on accountability, respect, and shared values across the WNBA community. The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) newest Platform,“No Space For Hate”, reflects on their support to not only protecting its players but also upholding the values and standards set in the WNBA.
The league hopes that in this joint effort that they will reaffirm their values, that there is no place for hate in sports.
