Carolina Hurricanes Advance to Eastern Conference Final with Game Five Victory over Capitals, 3-1

By Zachary McMahon-

The Washington Capitals hosted the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night in Game five of the Eastern Conference Second Round, where the Capitals were on the brink of elimination, being down 3-1 after winning the last two games.

Both Frederik Andersen and Logan Thompson had 18 saves for the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals.

The game was tied at one apiece, as both Jordan Staal and Anthony Beauvillier scored for their prospective teams.

Andrei Svechnikov scored the go-ahead goal with 1:59 left in the game, as his shot got through on a bad angle, and then Seth Jarvis sealed it with an empty-net goal.

The Canes won 3-1 and will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the third time in the last six seasons, and will either have a rematch with the Florida Panthers, whom they were defeated by in the 2023 ECF Finals, or the Toronto Maple Leafs, who they won in the 2002 Eastern Conference final, the two teams will play on Friday at 8 p.m. on TNT/TruTV/Max.
