Orioles Get Swept by the Twins, 5-2

By Zachary McMahon-

The Baltimore Orioles played the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Thursday afternoon. The Twins had won the first two games of the series, and are on a four-game winning streak. The O’s were in a four-game losing streak entering the match.

After the O’s acquired Luis Castillo from the Orioles, the Orioles designated Matt Bowman for assignment.

Dean Kremer pitched seven innings while allowing three hits, two earned runs, two walks with a season-high of eight strikeouts. Bailey Ober pitched five innings, allowed eight hits, one earned run, and one walk with six strikeouts.

Byron Buxton led off with a walk by Kremer, then Buxton stole second after Brooks Lee struck out looking. Ty France hit an RBI single to bring home Buxton.

The O’s tied it up when Emmanuel Rivera hit a RBI double in the second inning, and took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Mountcastle.

The Twins tied it back up with a solo homer by Trevor Larnach, and took the lead with a three-run eighth inning with a double by Lee and a RBI single by France, after another walk by Buxton.

Jhoran Duran made his sixth save of the season, ending the game on a strikeout to Jackson Holiday as the Twins won 5-2 over the Orioles.

France had a three-hit game as he got his 700th hit on that RBI single in the eighth, and he’s had multiple hits in back-to-back games. Both Buxton and Harrison Bader walked twice in the game, as they extended their on-base streaks to 14 and 11 games respectively. For Bader, it ties his longest on-base streak of his career, as he did it twice with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2022 and 2021. Buxton’s two walks put him at 200 in his career.

The O’s scored three runs or lower in their 11th straight road game, which ties their longest streak in franchise history. It’s also tied for the longest streak since 2015 when the Atlanta Braves had 13 straight road games where they scored three runs or lower. They have lost 10 out of their last 11 road games, and this was the first time they did that since 2017.

The Twins have gone 10-1 in their last 11 home games, which ties for the best mark since they went 11-0 in a span of 11 home games in 2006.

Gunnar Henderson singled in the sixth inning, which extended his on-base streak to 14 games. The five walks by the Orioles makes it their 114th straight game with a walk, which is the third-longest streak in franchise history, and it’s the longest since the San Diego Padres had a streak of 116 with a walk in 2023.

The Orioles will travel to California to face the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Ca at 9:38 pm first pitch on Friday with Tomoyuki Sugano going up against Kyle Hendricks. The Twins will start a three-game weekend series against the San Francisco Giants at 8:10 pm first pitch on Friday with Chris Paddack going up against Jordan Hicks.
