President Donald Trump and the NFL announced on Monday at an event at the White House that the 2027 NFL Draft will be held in Washington, D.C at the National Mall.
The Draft would be held in Washington for the first time in 86 years, with the draft last being hosted there in 1940 at the Willard Hotel.
The earliest that the draft could be held in D.C. was in 2027, as Pittsburgh was tabbed to host the 2026 draft.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, “The NFL Draft has become a marquee event, uniting fans across the country and around the world.” The Draft being held at the National Mall has the chance to shatter the record set by the 2024 Draft in Detroit when 775,000 attended the event, and could even reach a million people, according to Goodell.
Commanders owner Josh Harris was also in attendance at the White House event, and it’s the second major announcement for the team in the last seven days, as a new stadium was announced where RFK Stadium used to be located, which is expected to be completed in 2030.
Denver was also in the running for the 2027 NFL Draft, but D.C. was ultimately chosen.
