The DC Defenders hosted the Memphis Showboats on Saturday night at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The Defenders won against the Birmingham Stallions and the Showboats lost against the Michigan Panthers.
It was a defensive game for the most part, as the teams had traded field goals until the fourth quarter when Matt McCrane missed a 40-yard field goal, E.J. Perry scrambled for a 16-yard touchdown for the Showboats, and the Showboats had a 12-9 lead.
The Defenders had a touchdown and a three-point conversion after Jordan Ta’amu passed to Ben Breshanan for a three-yard touchdown, as it was his first reception in his two seasons with the Defenders.
The Showboats had a chance to win the game on their final two drives of the game, but Devonnsha Maxwell blocked a field goal by Matt Coghlin and than a failed lateral play on the last second as the Defenders sealed their 17-12 victory over the Showboats.
Perry went for 194 passing yards, a rushing touchdown, and an interception, while Ta’amu had 152 yards with a touchdown.
Jonathan Adams led the Showboats with nine receptions with 128 receiving yards, and Perry’s longest throw was to Elijah Stove for a 42-yard reception, which was his only one.
The Showboats will play again on Saturday as they will host the Houston Roughnecks at 2:30 pm on ESPN/ESPN+. Meanwhile, the Defenders will play the St. Louis Battlehawks next Sunday at 3 pm on ABC/ESPN+.
