The Philadelphia Flyers hosted the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, PA. The Flyers won against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday after going 2-10-2 in the previous last 14 games. This is the second game since John Tortorella was fired on Thursday before the game against the Habs. Meanwhile, the Sabres had won three straight games before this match.

The Flyers opened with a 2-0 lead after Matvei Michkov and Jacob Pelletier scored goals 29 seconds apart. Five minutes after Pelletier’s goal Jack Quinn scored the first goal for the Sabres in the first period.

In the second period, J.J. Peterka tied the game at two apiece for the Sabres, and then Quinn scored his second goal of the game which had the Sabres take the lead 3-2.

Michkov tied the game for his second straight two-goal game, two minutes after Quinn’s goal. The Flyers retook the lead with a score from Noah Cates.

After leading 4-3 at the end of the second, the Flyers took off, outscoring the Sabres 3-1 in the third period, including scoring two powerplay scores from Owen Tippett and Ryan Poehling, as the Flyers won 7-4 over the Sabres. Alex Tuch scored a shorthanded goal as the only goal in the third for the Sabres.

Ryan McLeod had a three assist game for the second time in four games, and has an assist in three out of the last four. Michkov now has a five-game point streak (four goals, five assists). Quinn had a goal and an assist in the same game for the first time since he had two straight games with a goal and an assist against the Chicago Blackhawks on Dec. 27 and the New York Islanders on Dec. 23.

Buffalo will play Washington tomorrow, while the Flyers will play the Nashville Predators on Monday.
