On Tuesday night, the Washington Wizards faced off against the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI. Heading into this matchup, the Pistons looked to capitalize on their home-court advantage following a win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Meanwhile, the Wizards were hoping to bounce back from a tough loss to the Toronto Raptors. However, Detroit proved too much to handle, securing a dominant 123-103 victory.
With this win, the Pistons now hold the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 37-29 record. Despite a disappointing and underwhelming performance last season, they have returned to showcase what they’re truly capable of. Several players played key roles in the victory, including Cade Cunningham, who led the way with 27 points and 10 assists. Jalen Duren also contributed with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Malik Beasley provided a spark off the bench, scoring 14 points on an impressive 66% shooting from three-point range. The Pistons dominated defensively and outscored the Wizards in every quarter, proving their depth and resilience.
On the other hand, the Wizards continue to struggle, falling to a 13-51 record. It has been a tough season for Washington, but they continue to show up and compete, hoping for better results. In this game, Jordan Poole put up 15 points, albeit on a rough 33% shooting from the field. Kyshawn George added 12 points while shooting 44%, but the most efficient performance came from veteran Marcus Smart, who scored 16 points off the bench on 60% shooting. The Wizards struggled mightily from beyond the arc, hitting just 33% of their three-pointers, and were outmatched on the boards, grabbing only 47 rebounds compared to the Pistons’ 67.
The Pistons and Wizards will face off one last time this season on March 13th at Capital One Arena, with tip-off set for 7 PM.
