The Philadelphia 76ers hosted the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. The 76ers were in the midst of a three-game losing streak, while also losing five out of the last six games. The Raptors were in a four-game losing streak and had lost five out of the last six games.
Raptors forward Scottie Barnes lead the Raptors with 33 points with 10 rebounds, his first double-double since Jan. 31 against the Chicago Bulls. Immanuel Quickley followed up with 23, Gradey Dick had 17, and Ochai Agbaji had 11 for Toronto.
Tyrese Maxey struggled as he went 1-for-9 from the field, and 1-for-7 from beyond the arc, and only scored five points. Maxey snapped a streak of 18 straight games where he scored 25 or more points.
The 76ers bench carried them through with Jared Butler scoring 15 and Quentin Grimes scored 13 off the bench. Butler was on his second game with the 76ers since being acquired in a trade with the Washington Wizards on Feb. 6.
Joel Embiid led the 76ers with 27 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. He had those same stats on Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Paul George followed with 14, and Kelly Oubre Jr., scored 12 points.
With 1:32 left in the game Agbaji made a layup which had the Raptors break out of a tie and into a 105-103 lead. Embiid then had a turnover with eight seconds left, and then Maxey had to do a personal foul to stop the clock, which allowed Dick to pad the lead, making one of his two free throws. Maxey missed a three-point jumper, which sealed the victory for the Raptors, 106-103.
Embiid was 4-for-6 from the field, but he also had 8-for-9 in free throws in the first half, whereas he only went 4-for-13 in the second half, and 2-for-6 in the fourth quarter.
The 76ers went 9-for-38 from beyond the arc, which accounts for 23.7%, which is the second lowest percentage of three-points made in a game this season for Philly, with the lowest being on Nov. 24 against George’s former team in the Los Angeles Clippers.
There were several players from the Eagles, who are the Super Bowl champions, that were in attendance at the game, including Cooper DeJean and Zach Baun, both of whom had interceptions against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
The 76ers now have a four-game losing streak, and have lost six out of their last seven games, and look to break that on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 pm tip-off. The Raptors will play on Wednesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers back North in Toronto.
