The Orlando Magic hosted the Atlanta Hawks at the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida on Monday night in a Southeast division contest. The Hawks are on a two-game winning streak after winning against the Washington Wizards on Saturday and the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday. The Magic won on a late go-ahead shot by Paolo Banchero on Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs.
Trae Young struggled for most of the night, however in the fourth quarter he scored seven straight points for the Hawks, that broke a 99-99 tie, and he scored 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter. Young also committed nine turnovers but added eight assists and five rebounds.
Caris LeVert and Curtis Mann led the Hawks bench with 18 and 12 points respectively, and their bench outscored the Magic 54-23. LeVert played in his 500th game, and he’s the 12th player from the 2016 draft class to achieve this accomplishment.
Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero lead the Magic with 37 and 31 points respectively. The 37 points ties season-high for Wagner, and he has scored 30+ points in two straight games. This game was Banchero’s fifth game this season where he has scored 30+ points. Wagner scored 20 points in the third, which is a career high in a third quarter in his career. Banchero and Wagner had scored 30+ points together in the same game for the second time this season and the third time during their careers.
Dyson Daniels had four steals, which is his 18th game with four or more steals this season, which is the most in the NBA since Chris Paul had 18 in both 2012-13 and 2010-11, and it’s the most for the Hawks since Mookie Braylock had 19 in the 1997-98 season. Also, he had his 145th steal this season, which is the 15th-highest total in franchise history passing Jason Terry’s 144 in 2001-02. He also has the longest active steal streak, as he’s had at least one steal in 25 straight games.
In a 18-second span in the fourth quarter both Larry Nance Jr, and Vit Krejci both went down with injuries. Nance had a right knee injury and Krejci had a lower back contusion.
The Hawks won 112-106 over the Magic, and they head on to New York with a three-game winning streak, when they face the Knicks on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Magic will face the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday at 7pm tip off.
