The Connecticut Sun are diligently laying the groundwork for an exciting and transformative 2025 season. Following a series of significant leadership changes within the franchise, the organization is set to embark on a new chapter. A pivotal component of this reorganization is the appointment of Morgan Tuck as the new General Manager. Her leadership is expected to set a positive tone and direction for the team, paving the way for innovative strategies and a competitive edge in the upcoming seasons.

Complementing Tuck’s vision is the recent hiring of Rachid Meziane as the Head Coach. Meziane brings a wealth of coaching experience and fresh perspectives, poised to implement new tactics and systems that will enhance the team’s performance. His track record indicates a focus on player development and a strategic approach to both offense and defense, promising to elevate the Sun’s competitive play.

In a further strengthening of the coaching staff, the Connecticut Sun announced Thursday that Roneeka Hodges was their newest assistant coach.

“We are thrilled to welcome Roneeka to our coaching staff. Her experience as both a coach and player at the highest level in our league and overseas brings a unique perspective and skill set to our organization,” remarked Connecticut Sun General Manager Morgan Tuck. “Combined with her passion for developing talent, her experience makes her an invaluable addition to our coaching staff. Roneeka brings a strong work ethic, a deep understanding of the game, and championship experience which will contribute greatly to maintaining a winning culture. We are confident that she will make a significant impact on our organization and players.”

Hodges, who joins the team with an impressive and diverse coaching portfolio, most recently served as an assistant coach for the New York Liberty from 2022 to 2024. During her impactful tenure with the Liberty, she played a crucial role in an exceptional feat: halpinh to guide the team to its first WNBA Championship in 2024. The historic victory not only marked a monumental achievement for the Liberty but also showcased Hodges’ keen understanding of the game and ability to motivate and lead players.

Her exceptional coaching skills were prominently displayed during the regular seasons of 2023 and 2024, helping the Liberty secure back-to-back impressive records of over 30 wins in both years. This consistent performance was a testament to her analytical approach to the game and her effective communication with the players.

Before her successful run with the Liberty, Hodges built a solid foundation in the collegiate basketball arena. She served as an assistant at Colgate University from 2021 to 2022, where she was instrumental in developing the team’s skills and strategies. Earlier in her career, she made significant contributions at Old Dominion University during the 2020-2021 season, honing her ability to teach and inspire young athletes. Additionally, in a display of her diverse expertise, Hodges served as a special advisor to the LSU women’s basketball program during the 2019-2020 season, allowing her to impart her knowledge and experience to the next generation of players.

Roneeka Hodges’ journey is further enriched by her own storied playing career, which spanned an impressive 11 seasons in the WNBA. Her professional path began when she was selected as the 15th overall pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Houston Comets. Throughout her four seasons with the Comets, Hodges made significant contributions and developed her game on the court. After the disbandment of the Comets, she was picked up in the dispersal draft by the Minnesota Lynx, where she continued to refine her skills beginning in the 2009 season. Over the course of her playing career, she appeared in 327 games, which included both regular-season contests and postseason play, showcasing her durability and commitment to the sport. Hodges also played with other notable franchises, including the San Antonio Silver Stars (2010-2011), Indiana Fever (2012), Tulsa Shock (2012-2014), and Atlanta Dream (2015). These experiences not only enhanced her versatility as a player but also deepened her understanding of different playing styles and team dynamics.

In her collegiate years, Hodges made her mark as a standout player at Louisiana State University (LSU), where she played from 2000 to 2003 before transferring to Florida State University. At FSU, she continued to showcase her talent and cement her place in women’s college basketball.

“I’m excited to begin this new journey with Coach Meziane and the Sun organization,” said Hodges. “I look forward to sharing my knowledge of the game and experiences as we continue to grow a winning culture. I’m grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to continued success.”

As the calendar moves toward the 2025 season, the Connecticut Sun are gearing up for a thrilling home opener at the Mohegan Sun Arena. They will face off against the Washington Mystics on May 18 at 1:00 PM ET, marking the start of what fans hope will be a promising and successful campaign under new leadership and coaching staff.
