Pierre-Luc DuBois Scores Two in Caps Overtime Winner against Canucks, 2-1

The Washington Capitals hosted the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The Capitals entered the game on a four-game point streak (2-0-2), after losing in the shootout against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, and to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

The Canucks have lost the last two games before this one, including an overtime loss in Montreal on Monday.

It was a defensive game, as the teams combined for nine shots in each of the first and third period, and the game was tied at one score apiece for the entire third period until overtime.

Conor Garland scored the only goal for the Canucks in the final minute of the second period to tie the game.

Pierre-Luc DuBois was the only scorer for the Caps, as he scored both goals, including the overtime winner late in the period, as the Caps won 2-1 over the Canucks.

The Capitals have extended their point streak to five games, which is the longest since their season long nine-game point streak between Nov. 25 against the Florida Panthers and Dec. 14 against the Sabres, where they went 8-0-1 in that stretch. The lone overtime loss came against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 3, when they lost 2-1.

Meanwhile, the Canucks lost their third straight game, and second in overtime, as they have gone 2-3-5 since Dec. 16, as they have gone just 1-5 in games that have gone to overtime or shootout in that stretch. Their 10 total overtime losses, surpassed last season’s total, and is the most since the 2021-22 season when they had 12 overtime losses.

The Caps will play their second game against a Canadian team, as the Montreal Canadiens will play on Friday at 7 p.m. puck drop. Meanwhile, the Canucks will play the middle part of the five-game eastern road trip against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday at 7 p.m.
