By Zachary McMThe Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the K ansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day on Wednesday at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. This was the third Christmas Day game that the Steelers played in 2016 against the Kansas City Chiefs, and 2017 against the Houston Texans, in which they won both games. This is the fifth game that the Chiefs has played on Christmas, including the longest NFL game in history in the 1971 AFC Divisional Round against the Miami Dolphins. They played against the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas where they lost 20-14.
Patrick Mahomes opened up with two passing touchdowns to Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson in the first quarter, as the Chiefs were up 13-0 at the end of the opening quarter.
Russell Wilson scored the only touchdown that Pittsburgh would score in the second quarter as a one-yard rush.
Kareem Hunt rushed for a two-yard touchdown and Travis Kelce broke the all-time receiving touchdowns record for the Chiefs which was previously held by Tony Gonzalez with his 77th score to make it 29-10, in a nod to Gonzalez, Kelce dunked on the goal post, in which he got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
The Steelers lost to the Chiefs 29-10, Najee Harris (75 rushing yards), Jaylen Warren (71 rushing yards) and Wilson (55 yards), all ran for 50+ rushing yards, which makes it the second loss in the Super Bowl era for Pittsburgh, fifth overall when three rushers ran for 50+ yards. It is also the first loss in a game where two running backs had 70+ rushing yards since Week 5 in 1986 against the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers had 202 rushing yards, the most in a loss since Week 17 in 1998 when they rushed for 205 yards in a loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Chiefs have now clinched home field advantage and the bye throughout the AFC playoffs, as they moved to 15-1, and they play the final game of the season against the Denver Broncos. The Steelers will play the Cincinnati Bengals for the final game of the season.
