The New York Rangers hosted the New Jersey Devils on Monday night at Madison Square Garden in NYC in the second game of the five-game homestand. The Rangers won against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, 4-3, and the Devils lost 6-5 against the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
The Devils scored all five of their goals in the first and second periods as Dougie Hamliton scored a power play goal, and Jack Hughes scored two goals in the second period, including one on the powerplay. Devils point leader Jesper Bratt had a goal and three assists, as he had his third career four point game, as he had two such games against the Minnesota Wild and the Ottawa Senators last season.
Chris Kreider broke the shutout for Devils netminder Jakob Markstrom in the third period. Markstrom had a season-high 38 saves on 39 shots on goal for the win. Igor Shesterkin had just 22 saves and lost his fifth straight start and fell to 8-9-1 on the season, as the Devils grabbed a 5-1 victory over the Rangers.
The Devils have won seven out of the last 10 games, and the Rangers have lost six out of the last seven games. Both teams will be playing on Friday, with the Rangers facing the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Devils facing the Seattle Kraken.
