The Tampa Bay Lightning hosted the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. The Avalanche have been on the hot streak as they have won six out of the last seven games entering this match. The Lightning however, have lost the last two games, and have lost six out of the last nine games.
The Lighting started strong with a five-goal first period, including Brandon Hagel breaking a NHL record with four assists in the first period. The Lightning scored five goals in the opening period for the fourth time in franchise history, in which it’s the first since on Feb. 23, 2011.
Hagel tied the franchise record for the most assists in a game with another one in the second period on Brayden Point’s goal for a total of five. It was the second time that the Lightning player had a five assist game in the calendar year, Darren Raddyish had a five assist game on March 9 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Ivan Ivan scored both goals for the Colorado Avalanche, for his first multi-goal game of his career.
Jake Guentzel scored two goals for the Lightning and Anthony Cirelli scored in his sixth straight game, as he’s the sixth player in Lightning history to score in six straight games or longer. Luke Gledening and Michael Eyssimont both scored their first goals of the season.
Zemgus Girgensons notched his 100th career assist on Eyssimont’s goal, which was the last goal in the game.
Andrei Vasilevsky made 23 saves on 25 shots, while Justus Annuen allowed five goals while in net for the first and third periods for the Avs, Alexandar Georgiev made 14 saves on 17 shots.
The Lightning scored eight goals for the second time this season, as they had a 8-5 game against the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 22, and this is the second time that the Avs have allowed eight goals in a game, as they did it in the season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights, in which they lost 8-4.
The Lightning will finish their three-game homestand against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. puck drop. The Avs will head back to Denver at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, both games will be on TNT/Max.
