The Philadelphia Flyers hosted the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. The Flyers entered the matchup with a losing record after losing two straight games at home against the Carolina Hurricanes and the Colorado Avalanche. Then, the Blackhawks snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory against the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
The Blackhawks scored the first two goals of the game with scores from Lukas Reichel and Pat Maroon, scoring his first goal for the Blackhawks, after he signed a one-year contract with Chicago, after playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Boston Bruins.
Then the Flyers rallied to tie the game at two, when Sean Couturier and Noah Cates (first goal of the season) scored for Philly, and the game went into overtime. Couturier scored his first goal in 14 games.
Just over a minute into overtime, Matvei Michkov scored on a 4-on-3 powerplay off Alex Vlasic’s holding penalty, to win the game for the Flyers, as they won 3-2 over the Blackhawks. The Flyers are now 5-2 when they go into the overtime/shootout period.
Aleksei Kolosov made 19 saves for the Flyers in his first career win. Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek made 34 saves on 37 shots on net in the loss.
The Flyers will conclude their five-game homestand against the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday at 7 pm eastern. The Blackhawks will travel back to Chicago to face the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night at 7:30 central time (8:30 eastern).
