The Pittsburgh Penguins played the Detroit Red Wings at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesday night. The Penguins entered the matchup after losing three out of the last four games, and the Red Wings lost two straight against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers.
All the scoring in regulation took place in the second period, as the Red Wings scored the first two goals, with the latter being a power-play goal by Patrick Kane, which was his first goal since Oct. 24 against the New Jersey Devils.
The Pens tied it up at two when Bryan Rust and Anthony Beauvillier scored for the Penguins, Beauvillier scored for the second straight game for the first time this season, as he was the only goal in Monday’s 7-1 loss against the Dallas Stars.
Simon Edvinsson scored the game-winning goal for the Red Wings 1:30 into overtime as he was fed by Alex DeBrincat in the corner, as the Red Wings won 3-2 over the Penguins.
Cam Talbot stopped 32 shots on his 250th win for the Red Wings. Alex Nedeljkovic, former Red Wings netminder, made 28 shots for Pittsburgh.
The Penguins have points in 13 out of the last 15 matchups against the Red Wings, and a 10 home game point streak dating back to 2018. However, the Pens have now lost four out of the last five games.
Both teams will be on the road on Friday, as the Red Wings will be in Anaheim, while the Pens will visit the Columbus Blue Jackets.
