The New York Knicks hosted the Chicago Bulls at the Madison Square Garden in New York City on Wednesday night. The Knicks won the NBA Cup opener against the 76ers on Tuesday, and the Bulls lost against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday and entered the matchup 5-5 on the season.
Lonzo Ball missed his eighth straight game with a sprained right wrist, and Zach LaVine was listed as ‘probable’ due to a strained right adductor, but was in the starting lineup.
The Bulls led by as much as 22 in the third quarter as they were up 90-68, but the Knicks ended the third quarter on a 17-0 run to cut it to 90-85 to end the third. The Knicks then took the lead with a Josh Hart layup that made it 97-96 three minutes into the fourth quarter.
Jalen Brunson made a driving layup that made it 123-121 with four seconds left, however with a foul at the three-point line by Josh Hart on Coby White, White made all three for the lead. Brunson tried again but missed a jumper as the Bulls hung on 124-123 over the Knicks.
Karl-Anthony Towns scored a season-high 46 points for the Knicks and had a double-double with 10 rebounds. Brunson scored 24 points and had a team-high eight assists.
LaVine led the Bulls with 31 points, while White followed up with 22 points, including making all eight of his free throws.
The Knicks will continue their homestand with their next two games against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday and Sunday, while the Bulls will play a NBA Cup game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7:30 pm tip off.
