The New York Islanders played the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Tuesday night. The Islanders are coming off an overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, while they do have a three-game point streak with the two wins against the Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Meanwhile, the Oilers snapped a two-game losing streak with a resounding 7-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks.
Leon Draisaitl started off the second period with a power-play goal for the Oilers, and then Kyle Palmeri tied it up at one, which it held that way to end the period.
Evan Bouchard and Connor McDavid scored the first two goals of the third period for the Oilers before the Islanders tied it up again with two goals by Anders Lee, and then the game went into overtime.
Draisaitl scored the game-winning goal for his second of the game in overtime, as the Islanders lost 4-3 against the Oilers.
McDavid had a goal and three assists, as he’s one point away from 1,000 career points, as if he gets a point in Thursday’s game against the Nashville Predators he will be the fourth-fastest player to get 1,000 career points with 658 games played, after the Great One Wayne Gretzky (424), Mario Lemieux (513), and Mike Bossy (656). Draisaitl is now leading the Western Conference in goals scored.
Palmeri went past Brock Nelson for the team lead in goals and Bo Horvat for a team-high 14 points for the Islanders.
The Islanders will continue on their road trip in Vancouver as they will play the Canucks on Thursday at 10 pm puck drop.
