Jags Narrowly Comeback from 22 pt Deficit in Loss against Eagles, 28-23; Barkley Goes Viral for Backwards Hurdle

By Zachary McMahon-

The Philadelphia Eagles played the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday evening. The Eagles came into the matchup winning three straight since starting 2-2 in their first four games. Meanwhile, the Jags were looking for their first road victory of 2024, and are coming off a close loss to the Green Bay Packers in Duval County last Sunday.

SaQuon Barkley dazzled the NFL and went viral for his backwards hurdle over Jarrian Jones in the second quarter while the Eagles were up 7-0, after Barkley already had a receiving touchdown in the red zone in the first quarter. Barkley had a 19-yard rushing touchdown near the end of the first half as they were leading 16-0, as Jalen Hurts two-point tush push didn’t work after the touchdown.

The Eagles were up 22-0 after Hurts had another touchdown run of 19 yards early in the third quarter. However, by the end of the quarter the Jags stormed back after a Trevor Lawrence touchdown run, and a 35 yard Travon Walker fumble recovery, as they were only down 22-16.

DeVonta Smith had a one-handed touchdown grab on the right sideline from Hurts, and then Lawrence had another touchdown run, and the Eagles were leading 28-23.

Naokbe Dean’s interceptions with under two minutes left in the game in the end zone stopped the comeback attempt by the Jags, as the Eagles held on 28-23.

Barkley had 159 yards on 27 carries with both a rushing and receiving touchdown, and Hurts went 18/24 with 230 yards and three touchdowns (two passing, and a rushing touchdown each). Lawrence went 16/31, with 169 yards, two rushing touchdowns, and two interceptions.

This was Jags Head coach Doug Pederson’s second time in Philly since being fired from the Eagles in 2020, and he’s 0-2 in those games.

Jags offensive line Cooper Hodges was carted off the field with a leg injury in the third quarter, while Eagles receiver A.J. Brown exited with a knee injury.

The Eagles will play their division opponent Dallas Cowboys next Sunday at 4:25 pm on CBS, and the Jags will head back to Jacksonville to face Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday at 1 pm on FOX.
