Rhode Island Rams Improve to 7-1 With 24-14 Win Against Maine Black Bears

Saturday afternoon in Kingston, Rhode Island at Meade Stadium, the Rams hosted the Maine Black Bears winning 24-14 and improved to 7-1. 

In the first quarter, The Black Bears got into this game with Carter Peevy connecting with Cooper Heisey, and the kick was good to make it a 7-0 game. It was Heisey’s fourth receiving touchdown of the season and Peevy’s fifth passing touchdown of the season. 

The Rams broke into this game in the second quarter with Devin Farrell rushing for two touchdowns, extending Rhode Island’s lead to 7-14. It was Farrell’s fourth and fifth rushing touchdowns of the season. 

Fourth quarter, 14:56 on the clock, and Maine tied the game 14-14 with Brian Santana-Fis rushing for a touchdown, his second of the season. But the Rams got back out front, 14-21, with Malik Grant grabbing his sixth rushing touchdown of the season. The Rams then extended their lead to 14-24 with Ty Groff, making a 35-yard field goal.

Saturday’s game was the 102nd in the long-standing history between the two programs, which dates back to 1911.

Next up for URI is a 1:00 p.m. game on November 2, when the Monmouth Hawks visit Meade Stadium. The last time the Rams and Hawks met at Meade Stadium, the Rams won 48-46 in 70T on October 22, 2023. 

Next up for the Black Bears is a trip to Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma, on November 2, at 2:30 p.m., when they meet the Oklahoma Sooners.
