The Old Dominion Monarchs hosted the Georgia Southern Eagles on Thursday night in Conference USA action at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, VA. The Monarchs have won two out of the last three games since losing the first three games of the season. The Eagles came into the game after winning three straight games.
Monarchs freshman quarterback Colton Joseph started off strong with four first-half passing touchdowns, including a 56-yard strike to Pat Conroy in the second quarter.
Eagles QB JC French had a long strike of his own as in the second quarter he had a 59-yard touchdown to Josh Dallas, as Dominion was dominating 30-7 to end the first half.
The Monarchs got more on the ground game in the third scoring two rushing touchdowns from Rutgers transfer Aaron Young and Joseph who scampered for a 30-yard touchdown, as they were up 44-7 in the third quarter.
Late in the same quarter, French had another bomb, this time a 55 yard pass to Dalen Cobb for the touchdown, which cut it to 44-13.
Eagles backup QB Dexter Williams II came in and threw a touchdown of his own, a four yarder to OJ Arnold in the fourth quarter.
The Monarchs crushed the Eagles 47-19, and Joseph had his finest game since taking over in the second half on Sept. 28 against Bowling Green, he went 20/26 with 304 yards and five total touchdowns. The Monarchs had a total of 560 offensive yards, the most in a game in three years.
Georgia Southern will travel down to Mobile, AL to face South Alabama next Saturday at 7:30 pm on ESPNU. The Monarchs will travel to North Carolina to face Appalachian State next Saturday at 2:30 pm on ESPN+.
