The New Jersey Devils hosted the New York Islanders on Friday night at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The Devils have lost three straight after starting 5-2-0, and the Islanders lost to the Detroit Red Wings 1-0.

Jake Allen started in net for the Devils made 26 saves on 30 shots on goal, while Ivan Sorokin made 32 saves on 35 shots for the Isles.

Brock Nelson put the Isles on the board first in the opening period, while Nico Hischier scored his eighth goal of the season for the Devils, which is now tied with Nikita Kucherov for the league lead in goals, and the goal tied the game at 1 after a faceoff. However, later in the period, Anders Lee scored on the final seconds of a slashing penalty on Brenden Dillon to end the period with a Islanders lead.

Curtis Lazar tied it up for the Devils to start the second period, as it was his first goal of the season, however former Devil Kyle Palmieri took back the lead once again for the Isles, as they led another period 3-2.

With 1:29 left in the third period, Jesper Bratt scored off a rebound from Sorokin to tie the game at three apiece, while Allen’s net was empty, and then the game went into overtime.

After the opening faceoff in overtime, Sorokin made an acrobatic save on Hischier, which would in part help the Isles win as Bo Horvat scored just past a minute into overtime, and won 4-3 over the Devils.

Devils will stay in Jersey on Sunday as they will play the Anaheim Ducks at 7 pm, while the Isles play on Saturday at home against Florida Panthers at 7:30 pm puck drop.
