Boston College Blows 17-Point Lead, Loses to Louisville 31-27

Boston College hosted Louisville at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, MA on Friday night. The Eagles came into the game on a two-game losing streak, losing 42-21 against Virginia Tech in their last game, last Thursday. This game was also BC’s homecoming game.
After the two teams combined for three punts on the first three drives, Boston College’s defense made a huge play as Quintayvious Hutchins intercepted a Tyler Shough pass, stalling a promising Cardinals drive.

The Eagles offense would capitalize as quarterback Thomas Castellanos threw a 54-yard touchdown to tight end Kamari Morales on a 4th and 1 to give them a 7-0 lead with 7:26 remaining in the first quarter. The drive was commended in four plays, with a total of 63 yards. The drive lasted a total of 1:42.

The Eagles ended the first quarter being up 7-0, truly displaying their amazing defense, stopping the Cardinals all four times they stepped on the field.

Louisville would look to put their first points of the game with a 56-yard field goal, but the kick was short. BC would score their second touchdown on a fourth down for the second time this game, Castellanos threw a four-yard score to Treshaun Ward, extending the lead to 14-0 with 10:24 left in the first half.

Hutchins of the Eagles forced a fumble and the offense once again capitalized as Kye Robichaux scored from four yards out but did not convert the extra point. Boston College now held a 20-0 lead with 6:30 remaining in the second half.

With 1:17 left in the second quarter, Isaac Brown ran in for the Cardinals’ first touchdown, the extra point was good and the score was now 20-7. BC would chew up the remainder of the clock and took the 20-7 lead into the locker room.

Coming out into the second half, the Cardinals drove the ball down and kicked a field goal, now making the score 20-10. Castellanos threw his third touchdown of the game, a yarder to tight end Jeremiah Franklin, and the Eagles now led 27-10 with 7:58 left in the third quarter.

After Shough completed a 44-yard pass down inside the Eagles’ five yard line, he then threw a four-yard touchdown to Nate Kurisky to make it a 27-17 game.

Louisville would score 14 fourqa-quarter points, including whay would wind up being the game-winner with 7:12 left, and left Chestnut Hill with a 31-27 victory. The loss for the Eagles is their third in a row.

They will have a week off before hosting Syracuse on Nov. 9. Kickoff time is to be determined.
