The Washington Capitals hosted the Philadelphia Flyers in the second game of the home-and-home series on Wednesday as they won in Philly on Tuesday.
Logan Thompson made 26 saves on 29 shots on goal for the Capitals, while Ivan Fedotov made 20 saves on 24 shots in his fourth career start for the Flyers.
Taylor Raddysh scored the opening goal for the Capitals in the first period, and it ended while the Caps were leading 1-0. Nic Dowd scored the first goal for the Caps in the second period before Connor McMichael scored twice to make it 4-0. The Flyers have been outscored 12-5 in second periods this season
The closest the Flyers got to tying the game, as Travis Konecny (power play), Owen Tippett, and Matvei Michkov scored three straight goals for the Flyers to make it 4-3 in the third period. However, the Caps defense stopped them from tying the game, and even scored two empty net goals from Pierre-Luc DuBois and Alex Ovechkin (855th goal) as the Caps won 6-3.
The Capitals won their fifth straight game after losing the season opener against the New Jersey Devils, and the Flyers lost their sixth straight game after winning the season opener against the Vancouver Canucks.
The Flyers will face the Minnesota Wild at 1 pm on Saturday, while the Caps will play the Lightning on Saturday at 7 pm.
