By Zachary McMahon-

The New York Mets went back to LA for Game 6 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as the Mets won Game 5 to extend this series on Friday.

Sean Mananea pitched two innings for the Mets. allowing six hits, five earned runs, two walks, and two strikeouts, while Michael Kopech just pitched one inning in a start for the Dodgers.

The Mets delivered the first blow on an infield single by Pete Aonso, but an error by Chris Taylor caused Francisco Lindor to score.

Tommy Edman drove in the first four runs for the Dodgers on a double for the first inning, and a two-run home run in the third inning. Edman’s 11th RBI tied for the most in a Dodgers postseason series history as Corey Seager who also had 11 in the 2020 NLCS against the Atlanta Braves.

Following Edman’s home run, Max Muncy walked, and then Will Smith hit a two-run home run, as the Dodgers ended the third inning with a 6-1 lead. Muncy got his 11th walk of the NLCS, which is the most in a LCS series, and tied second overall in the league, with Barry Bonds having more in the 2002 World Series with 13.

Mark Vientos hit a two-run home run for the Mets to cut it to 6-3 in the fourth inning, Vientos got his 14th RBI, which is the most in a single postseason in Mets history, and the third most in a Mets postseason career, with Gary Carter having 15 when he was on the Mets from 1985-1989, and Edgardo Alfonso having 17 from 1995-2002.

Shohei Ohtani extended the lead with a RBI single in the sixth inning to a 7-3 lead. The Dodgers then had another multi-run inning in the eighth, which started with a RBI double by Mookie Betts, and ended with a RBI single by Enrique Hernandez as they ended the eighth with a 10-4 lead.

The Mets tried to come back, and scored a run in the ninth inning as Jeff McNeil brought Tyrone Taylor home on a single. However, they could not score anymore as the Dodgers go on to face the New York Yankees in the World Series, with a 10-5 victory over the Mets in game 6.

The Dodgers broke all kinds of record in this series, they have scored eight or more runs in five games this postseason, in which only the 2004 & 2007 Boston Red Sox and the 2002 Los Angeles Angels all had six such games (all teams won the World Series). This included the four games in this series, which is tied for the most since the 1993 Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series and the 1960 World Series with the Yankees.

They;ve also had four wins by five or more runs this series which is tied with the 2012 San Francisco Giants, 2010 Texas Rangers, and the 2007 Red Sox, and the five wins by five or more runs in the postseason is fourth-most all time, followed by the 2012 Giants team which had six, and the 2007 Red Sox and 2021 Houston Astros teams having seven in their respective postseasons.

This was the second series in which each of the first six games were decided by four or more runs, in which the 1965 World Series between the Dodgers and the Minnesota Twins being the first.

The Dodgers are tied for fourth biggest run differential in a postseason series, with +20, in which the 2017 Dodgers team also had the same differential in the NLCS against the Chicago Cubs. The Dodgers also drew the most walks in a postseason series, and go for the most runs in a postseason series by a NL team with 46 in the NLCS, and fourth overall in the league.

Both Ohtani and Muncy tied for most times reaching base in a single postseason in a Dodgers series with 17 each. The last time a Dodger played had reached 15+ times in a single series was the 2020 World Series when Corey Seager, reached 15 times.

The World Series will start next Friday at Dodger Stadium, no time or starters have been announced at the time of writing.
