On Saturday, the University of Rhode Island Rams secured a 26-9 victory against the UNH Wildcats in Durham, New Hampshire, improving their season record to an impressive 6-1.
Standout performances included Cole Brockwell’s nine tackles, including a crucial tackle for loss, and the eight tackles each by Devin Hightower and Fredrick Mallay. Mallay also made his mark with his first interception of the season, while Linebacker Gabe Salomons contributed six tackles. The game also saw Tommy Smith scoring a rushing touchdown. Marquis Buchanan made an impressive 22-yard reception from Devin Farrell and skillfully ran it into the end zone for a spectacular touchdown.
Meanwhile, at the Albany State University Coliseum in Albany, Georgia, the Golden Rams dominated with a 52-6 win over Morehouse College, boosting their season record to 4-3. In Washington DC’s Greene Stadium, the Howard University Bisons unfortunately fell short, losing 14-27 against Tennessee State.
Over at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial in Annapolis, the Midshipmen maintained their perfect record with a resounding 51-17 victory against Charlotte, bringing their season record to an impressive 6-0. Notably, cornerback Dashaun Peele made history by becoming the first Navy player to return two interceptions for touchdowns in a single game, while Blake Horvath contributed with three scoring passes.
Moving on to Durham, North Carolina, at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium, Duke continued their impressive run, improving to 6-1 for the season with a hard-fought 23-16 win against FSU. Duke’s defense was outstanding, amassing 11 tackles for loss, six sacks, and forcing four turnovers that resulted in 17 points. Chandler Rivers set the tone for Duke’s defensive prowess with a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown.
CoLastly, at Morse Field at Alfond Stadium in Orono, Maine, the Black Bears delivered a stunning 35-7 victory over No. 5 Villanova. The game showcased the Black Bears’ dominant defense, forcing four turnovers and tallying seven sacks. Devin Vaught shone with an interception and a blocked field goal return for a touchdown, while Carter Peevy displayed remarkable accuracy with a 16-of-18 performance, amassing 173 yards and three touchdowns to Montego Moss, Joe Gillette, and Molayo Irefin.
