Jags Get Destroyed in London by Caleb Williams and Chicago Bears, 35-16

By Zachary McMahon-

The Jacksonville Jaguars played their first London game of 2024 against the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England. The Jags won their first game of 2024 after a game-winning field goal from Cam Little against the Indianapolis Colts. Caleb Williams and the Bears entered the matchup with a two-game winning streak against the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams.

The Bears played in London in 2019 and 2011, as they lost against the Oakland Raiders in 2019, but won their first matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Wembley in 2011.

The Bears offense had a slow start to the game, punting on their first two drives, but they would not do it again. Williams threw two touchdowns to Cole Kmet, who also long snapped during the game, as regular long snapper Scott Daly left the game early with a knee injury. The last time he was the long snapper in a game was in high school at St. Viator in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and he is the designated backup long snapper, who does take a couple of long snaps in practice every week.

In the second half, Keenan Allen had two touchdown receptions, and D’Andre Swift punched the ball for a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

Gabe Davis had a two-touchdown game from Trevor Lawrence and Cam Little made a 30 yarder in the opening drive as the Bears went into a crushing victory over the Jags across the pond, 35-16. Davis dropped the ball in the end zone in that opening drive which led Little to kick that field goal, and he was also whistled for a false start.

No. 1 overall pick Williams threw for 226 yards with four touchdowns and one interceptions, while picking up 56 yards on the ground.

Evan Engram came back after a hamstring injury kept him on the sideline for four games, fumbled after a reception on the opening drive in the third quarter which the Bears recovered, which led to Allen’s first touchdown. He had 10 receptions for 102 yards. Trevor Lawrence threw for 233/5 with 234 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

This was Chicago’s first three-game winning streak since late in the 2020 season, which led to the Bears making the postseason, in which they lost to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Wild Card.

Jags safety Darnell Savage and CB Darrian Jones both collided in the third quarter and were evaluated for concussions. The Bears DB Kyler Gordon was ruled out in the second half with a hamstring injury.

The Jags will stay in London as they will face the New England Patriots next Sunday at 9:30 am. The Bears will have a bye week in week 7 and then will go on a two-game road trip to Washington and Arizona.
