The New York Liberty hosted the Minnesota Lynx in Game 2 of the 2024 WNBA Finals at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on Sunday afternoon. The Liberty were looking to tie the series at 1 after the Lynx overcame an 18-point deficit to win Game 1 on Thursday.
New York opened up on a 5-0 run before Minnesota came back and made it a back-and-forth game through most of the quarter. The Liberty would pull away again in the final minutes of the first, leading 31-21 with 44.1 seconds left after Kayla Thorton knocked down a three-pointer. They led by that same score after the first 10 minutes.
The Liberty were able to keep their distance from the Lynx in the second quarter, leading by as much as 17 with 3:21 remaining in the first half. They would lead by 10, 49-39, as both teams headed into the locker room.
The Liberty had an answer for every Minnesota score in the first half of the third quarter. The Lynx would close the gap to 55-51 with 4:01 remaining in the third, but the Liberty would pull away, going on a 6-2 run to end the quarter with the score 61-53.
Minnesota started the fourth on a 13-5 run came within a basket at 66-64 with 5:36 left. With the score 68-66, New York would go on a 9-0 run to make it a 77-66 game with 41.1 seconds left. They would hold on to this lead and win Game 2 by a final score of to tie the series at one game a piece.
Game 3 will be played at Target Center in Minneapolis, MN on Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET
