The National Basketball Association (NBA) yearly creates great sports and entertainment for American viewers but they also make sure to provide and look out for other countries across the world.
Since 2015 the NBA has sold out three exhibition games in Africa, with NBA programming being available in all 54 African countries.
On October 8th, Mark Tatum, The NBA Deputy commissioner and Chief Operating Officer announced the decision to build a new environment in the scene of Nairobi, Kenya.
With this announcement he plans to build over 1,000 courts across the country and many basketball clinics for the youth around the countries of Kenya and Rwanda.
The NBA has always had a long standing relationship with Opportunity International, a global non-profit organization, this shows their commitment to showing it is deeper than just basketball but it is a community.
Tatum said “We looked forward to working together to create safe spaces where Kenya and Rwanda youth can play the game and participate in programs that help develop the next generation of players and coaches.” This program will be a huge help in the long run in NBA talent to come.
The NBA has taken a turn these past years from an International standpoint. Our international prospects deserve more training and recognition. With 125 of our NBA talent being international players, it is clear the future of our league is bigger than just the United States.
NBA Africa with the help from Opportunity International is on the right path and has the correct approach to help the African Youth but also our future athletes.
