Phillies’ Castellanos Walks-Off the Mets in NLDS Game 2, 7-6

The Philadelphia Phillies hosted Game 2 of the NLDS against the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA on Sunday Afternoon. On Saturday, the Mets used a five-run eighth inning to win against the Phillies in the opener. 

Luis Severino tossed six innings for the Mets, allowing six hits, three earned runs, no walks with seven strikeouts. Christopher Sanchez pitched five innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, and one walk with five strikeouts. 

Matt Vientos had the Mets strike first with a two-run homer in the third, and then continued with a solo homer from Pete Alonso in the sixth, as they led 3-0. 

The Phillies quickly tied it back up with back-to-back home runs by Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos in the bottom half of the sixth. 

Brandon Nimmo went yard with a solo homer to take back the lead for the Mets in the seventh, however Bryson Stott had a two-run triple that brought the Phillies their first lead of the game in the eighth. J.T. Realmuto hit a ground rule double that brought Stott home. 

Vientos hit a game-tying home run for his second homer of the game in the ninth inning, as it helped them stay alive in the top half. However, Castellanos hit a walk-off single to win the game for the Phillies 7-6. 

The teams will take a day off to travel to New York City as they will have Games 3 and 4 at Citi Field in Queens starting Tuesday. Aaron Nola will be facing Sean Mananea on the mound at 5:08 pm on Tuesday.
