The Jags hosted the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5 of the 2024 NFL Season at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, FL. The Jags looked to get their first victory after falling to 0-4 and being the only winless team this season. Meanwhile, the Colts after starting 0-2, had won their last two games against the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Joe Flacco started for the Colts after filling in for Anthony Richardson who suffered an oblique injury in the victory over the Steelers. Jonathan Taylor (ankle), Ryan Kelly (neck), cornerback Kenny Moore (hip), and defensive end Kwity Paye (quadricep) were also out for the Colts.
The Jags wore their throwback uniforms that originated in their inaugural season in 1995 as first Head Coach Tom Coughlin was inducted into the Ring of Honor and got a teal jacket.
Flacco got the first points of the game for the Colts, with a one-yard touchdown pass to Michael Pittman Jr. in the first quarter as the Colts led 7-0.
After Cam Little kicked his first field goal of the game which was for 23 yards, the Colts had a three-and-out, then Trevor Lawrence answered with a 85-yard touchdown to Brian Thomas Jr. to take the lead in the second quarter.
After Matt Gay tied the game up at 10 with a field goal, Little ended the first half with a 30-yarder as the Jags led 13-10. Tank Bigsby had his first touchdown run in the third quarter as they extended the lead to 20-10.
Lawrence had his second touchdown pass to Brenton Strange for four yards, which was his second touchdown reception of the season, and then Bigsby broke out for a 65 yard-touchdown run as they led by two touchdowns with about five minutes left in the game.
However, the game was tied after a 1-yard run by Trey Sermon and a 65-yard touchdown from Flacco to Alec Pierce. It allowed Little to have a big kick to win the game, and he came through with 17 seconds left in the game with a 49-yard field goal. Flacco could not answer to try to tie the game, as the Jags get their first victory of 2024 with the score of 37-34.
It was a game through the air as Lawrence had 371 passing yards, and Flacco had 359. Bigsby had his first career 100+ yard game as he cracked 101 yards, with the 65-yarder helping to the cause. Thomas Jr. led in receiving with 122 yards, while Pierce had 134 yards.
This is the Jags tenth straight victory against the Colts at home, as they have not lost to Indy in Jacksonville since 2014, when Andrew Luck was quarterbacking the Colts.
The Jags had problems in the first quarter however, as Lawrence and receiver Gabe Davis got into a heated argument on the sideline and had to be separated, this was amid reports of Head Coach Doug Pederson losing the locker room after the 0-4 start.
Jags returner Devin Duvernay left the game with a hamstring injury and Safety Antonio Johnson left with cramping issues.
The Jags will play the first of two London games next week as the Jags and the Bears will face each other at 9:30 am on NFL Network. The Sunday after that, they will be facing the New England Patriots. The Colts will stay on the road as they will go to Nashville to face the Tennessee Titans next Sunday at 1 pm on CBS.
