Baker Mayfield Powers Bucs to Victory Over the Eagles, 33-16

By Zachary McMahon-

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth week of actions at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL on Sunday. The Bucs had their first loss of the season against the Denver Broncos, and the Eagles won a tight matchup with the New Orleans Saints last Sunday.

DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown were both inactive for Hurts due to injuries, as well as right tackle Lane Johnson. Former Bucs linebacker Devin White was also out for the Eagles due to personal reasons.

Mike Evans’ two-yard reception touchdown got the ground going for Baker Mayfield and the Bucs, as he would go off for three touchdowns in the first half (two pass, one rush) and the Bucs would go onto a 24-0 lead. The Bucs had a 287-67 advantage of yardage at halftime.

Parris Campbell put the Eagles on the board near the end of the first half after a one-yard catch from Jalen Hurts, then the Eagles started with a run on the goal line with Hurts as the Eagles cut the deficit to 24-14, after Saquon Barkley ran for 59 yards.

After Bucky Irving had a one-yard touchdown run, Chase McLaughlin’s PAT was blocked and was returned for two points by Kelee Ringo. However, the Bucs would not let the Eagles score in the fourth as they cruised to victory 33-16.

Mayfield went 30-for-47 with 347 passing yards with three total touchdowns and Evans passed Martin Gramatica for the Buccaneers all-time scoring list with 596 points, and he had eight receptions with 94 yards.

Hurts went 18-for-30 with 158 passing yards with 20 rushing yards with two total touchdowns. Reed Blankenship was out in the second half with an illness, and Jalen Carter and center Cam Jurgens were both out as the field exceeded 100 degrees in the fourth quarter.

Trey Palmer, who had a touchdown reception in the first quarter, left the game in the first to be evaluated with a concussion.

The Bucs will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons on Thursday night football on Prime Video. The Eagles will play the Cleveland Browns at 1 pm on Sunday on FOX.
