By Stephen Ur –

The New York Liberty will take on the Las Vegas Aces in the 2024 WNBA semifinals with a trip to the Finals on the line. This will be a rematch of the 2023 WNBA Finals in which the Aces won their second consecutive WNBA title, defeating the Liberty at Barclays Center to clinch the title.

Led by Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart, along with Leonie Fiebich and Jonquel Jones, the Liberty finished with the league’s best record during the regular season and swept their first round series against the Atlanta Dream.

Ionescu led the team in points per game (26.5), assists per game (7) and steals per game (2) this postseason. Stewart, who led the team with 20.4 points per game during the regular season, led the team with 1.5 blocks per game during the postseason while Jones led the way with 10 rebounds per game.

As for the two-time defending champions, they didn’t have the same caliber seasons they had the last two, finishing with a 27-13 regular season record, earning them the fourth seed, just one game behind the Connecticut Sun. They are coming off a first-round sweep of the Seattle Storm.

The Liberty and Aces met three times during the regular season with the Liberty coming out on top in all three meetings – 90-82 in Las Vegas on June 15, 79-67 in Las Vegas on Aug. 17 and 75-71 in Brooklyn on Sept. 8

Las Vegas will be looking for revenge as well as a third consecutive WNBA championship appearance by taking down the top-seeded Liberty while New York will be looking for their second consecutive WNBA Finals appearance and their first title in franchise history.

Game 1 of this conference finals matchup will be played at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
