The New York Liberty hosted the Atlanta Dream in the first round of the 2024 WNBA playoffs at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The Dream clinched the eighth seed with a 78-67 win over the Liberty in the final game of the regular season. The team with the best record in the league were now looking for revenge.
New York got off to a fast start in the first quarter and with 1:34 remaining, Sabrina Ionescu made a three-point shot to make the score 27-9. It was the biggest lead at that point for the Liberty. Atlanta would go on a 7-2 to end the quarter and make the score 29-16 after the first 12 minutes.
Leonie Fiebich led the Liberty with 15 points in the first half, shooting a perfect 5 for 5 from the field, and the Liberty led 48-30 at halftime. Ionescu finished with 14 points, shooting just 4 for 9 from the paint.
Fiebich finished with a team-leading 21 points and the Liberty opened up the opening series with an 83-69 win over the Dream. Ionescu finished with 17 points, and Breanna Stewart scored 20.
The Liberty and Dream will meet for Game 2 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
