Patriots Drop Overtime Loss

Playing their first game in Gillette Stadium this season, an old super bowl would be their opponent in the home opener. The Seattle Seahawks came to town with a record of 1-0 and like New England looked to improve to 2-0.

In the spirit of the Super Bowl XLIX rematch Malcolm Butler would be the keeper of the light and many other Patriots from that super bowl team were in attendance.

The former Patriots cornerback is remembered for his game saving interception in the Super Bowl. Butler would;ve been helpful in Sunday’s game as the Patriots let the Seahawks passing attack have a game.

Geno Smith threw for 327 passing yards and a passing touchdown while receivers D.K Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba each had over 100 passing yards. Metcalf from 10 receptions had a receiving touchdown and 129 yards while Smith-Njigba finished with 117 off of 12 catches.

While Seattle attacked from the air, New England would attack from the ground with Antonio Gibson having 96 rushing yards and Rhamondre Stevenson having 81 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

New England did have a passing attack with Jacoby Brissett throwing for 149 passing yards and a passing touchdown. Ja’Lynn Polk, the second round rookie out of Washington, was on the receiving end of that passing touchdown which was the first of his career. Hunter Henry the patriots tight end finished with eight catches for 109 receiving yards.

The game was close throughout but ultimately in overtime the Seahawks would get the last say scoring in overtime off of a field goal which now leave the Patriots at 1-1 with a chance to get back in the win column when they take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Thursday.
